If you’re looking for a way to give back this fall, whether you’re a student completing community service hours, a professional wanting to volunteer outside of work, or simply someone who wants to support young people in your city, Girls on the Run - DC has something for you.
Our fall season kicks off in September, and we’re gearing up to support hundreds of program participants across all eight wards of D.C. as they build confidence, make connections, and move forward, literally and figuratively. To do that, we need a community of volunteers who are ready to show up and make an impact.
Here are five ways you can get involved this season:
1. Become a Volunteer Coach
Coaches are the heart of our program. They lead small teams through lessons that blend movement with important life skills—like goal setting, teamwork, and standing up for yourself and others. You don’t need to be a runner or have coaching experience. We provide all the training and materials you need.
🟣 Time Commitment: 1–2 practices per week starting the week of September 15
🟣 The season ends with a celebratory 5K event Sunday, November 23.

2. Help with a One-Time Volunteer Opportunity
Can't commit to a full season, but still want to help? We offer several one-time volunteer days throughout the season where you can lend a hand behind the scenes. Tasks may include assembling coach bags, assisting with shoe fittings, or sorting 5K shirts for program participants.
🟣 Flexible, hands-on roles
🟣 Great for individuals, coworkers, or students
🟣 Opportunities will be posted in August at: www.gotrdc.org/volunteer
3. Volunteer at the End-of-Season 5K
Help bring joy to the finish line! Our fall 5K is a citywide celebration where every girl is recognized for her effort, growth, and commitment. Volunteers are needed for check-in, water stations, course guidance, and cheering. No prior experience needed, just show up ready to help.
🟣 Date: Sunday, November 23 at the Fields at RFK
🟣 Perfect for individuals or groups
🟣 Sign-ups open in August at: www.gotrdc.org/volunteer
4. Join Team Adelaide
Team Adelaide members conduct site visits during practices to offer encouragement, observe how things are going, and help ensure that coaches and participants feel supported. This flexible role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy checking in with different groups and staying connected throughout the season.
🟣 Commitment: 1–2 visits from mid-September to mid-November
🟣 Good for returning volunteers or those with weekday flexibility
🟣 Sign-ups open in August at: www.gotrdc.org/volunteer
5. Join the Community Volunteer Circle
Want to stay involved with Girls on the Run - DC year-round? The Community Volunteer Circle is made up of passionate individuals who help spread the word about our work, support events, and grow our network throughout the D.C. region.
🟣 Ideal for community-minded connectors and advocates
🟣 High-impact involvement
