Each season Girls on the Run - DC identifies and selects a dynamic group of Coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-15 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Coach Overview

 As a Coach, you will work with a team of co-Coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole curriculum to a group of 8-15 girls. This position entails approximately four hours per week and is a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must consent to and complete a background check
  • Attend Girls on the Run coach training
  • Attend all (two) practices per week for a weekly time commitment of approximately 4 hours
  • Have fun!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Prepare, organize and supervise weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other Coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Facilitate communication with parents/guardians of program participants
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K
  • Plan and coordinate your team’s end of season party

COACH ATTENDANCE COMMITMENT

As a Coach, you are the heart of our Girls on the Run program. Successful implementation of the program requires Coaches to be present and engaged at both practice sessions each week. Therefore, Coaches who are absent for more than four (4) practices, during one season, will no longer be elegible to coach a Girls on the Run-DC team.

Site Liaison Overview

As a Site Liaison you will serve as the point of contact for the Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole team at your site. Site Liaisons support the Coaches at their program site while serving as a role model and mentor for program participants. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week over the 10-week season.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Attend Girls on the Run-DC online Site Liaison training

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete site application
  • Recruit and register 8-15 girls
  • Collect fees from families (if applicable)
  • Assist in recuiting a minimum of 2 Coaches for the site
  • Attend training with Girls on the Run - DC
  • Meet with Coaches one time prior to the start of the season
  • Ensure that the site meets Girls on the Run - DC compliance standards

Junior Coach Overview

Junior Coaches are high school students who assist Coaches at a Girls on the Run - DC program site. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week and is a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 14-18 years old
  • Must be a high school student
  • Attend Girls on the Run - DC online Coach Training
  • Able to attend practices once or twice per week throughout the 10-week season. Most teams begin practicing between 3:30-4:00pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down of games and lessons
  • Provide one-on-one attention to program partcipants
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run-DC 5K

Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN IS COACH TRAINING?

Coach Training will be held on Saturday, August 26th and Saturday, September 9th. New Coaches must attend one 4-hour session on either day.

CAN I CHOOSE THE SITE WHERE I COACH?

Potential Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If Coaches do not have a preference, we will assign them to a location in need of volunteers.

WILL I BE REIMBURSED FOR COACHING EXPENSES?

Each team receives a site allowance. Coaches must submit all receipts related to program expenses at the end of the season and will be reimbursed for an amount not to exceed the site allowance.
